Helpful Tips
  • Everything runs in your browser — files stay on your device.
  • You need at least two PDFs to merge. Use + Add more PDFs to keep adding.
  • File order in the list is the order of the final document.
  • Rotate applies to that whole file; thumbnail drag changes page order inside it.
  • If a PDF already has printed page numbers, adding numbers again will stack them.
  • Password-protected PDFs must be unlocked first.
  • Very large files are limited by your device memory (up to 150 MB each).

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

Everything you need to know about merging PDFs in your browser

1. How do I merge PDF files?

Add two or more PDFs from your device, Google Drive, or Dropbox. Preview them in the viewer, drag files to set the document order, and drag page thumbnails if you need to reorder pages inside a file. Click Finish merging and download the combined PDF.

2. Can I preview pages before merging?

Yes. After a file loads, the left panel shows a live preview. You can zoom in or out, fit the page, and move with Previous / Next. Click a file in the sidebar to preview that document.

3. Can I rotate pages or change page order?

Use the rotate buttons on each file to turn that whole document left or right. To change page order inside a file, drag the thumbnails under Pages. Dragging the file cards changes the order of the documents in the final merge.

4. Can I add page numbers while merging?

Yes. Enable Add page numbers and choose position (top/bottom, left/center/right), format (1, 2, 3, Page 1 of N, etc.), starting number, and font size. The preview draws the number on the page so you can check it before you merge.

If a PDF already has printed page numbers, adding them again will stack a second set.

5. How do I import PDFs from Google Drive or Dropbox?

Use the cloud buttons in the upload panel. Sign in to that service, pick one or more PDFs, and they are downloaded into your browser to merge. You still do not need a PDFinsert account.

On mobile, allow pop-ups. Google may show an extra permission screen the first time.

6. Do I need to create an account?

No. Merging from your device needs no login. You only sign in to Google or Dropbox if you import from those services. There is no watermark and no paid plan required to download.

7. Is there a limit to how many PDFs I can merge?

There is no fixed file count. Each file can be up to 150 MB. The real limit is your device memory. On phones, fewer or smaller files are more stable.

8. Can I merge password-protected PDFs?

Not directly. Unlock the file first with the Unlock PDF tool, then merge it.

9. Will the quality of my PDFs decrease after merging?

No. Merge copies pages as they are. It does not recompress images or flatten text. Quality stays the same as the originals. Rotate and page numbers are the only extras you opt into.

10. Are my files uploaded to any server?

No. Your files never leave your device for processing. The merge runs in the browser with pdf-lib. Cloud import only downloads the file you picked into that same browser session. We do not store the PDF.

11. Can I merge PDFs with different page sizes or orientations?

Yes. Mix A4, Letter, landscape, and portrait. Each page keeps its original size. You can still rotate a file if you want it facing another way before the merge.

12. Can I merge PDFs on my phone or tablet?

Yes, on current Chrome, Safari, Firefox, and Edge. Use Browse / Add more PDFs to open the system file picker. For many large documents, a computer is faster.

13. What can I do after I download the merged PDF?

Use Continue editing to send the result to Organize, Compress, Split, Rotate, Crop, page numbers, signature, watermark, or export to JPG/PNG — still in the browser.
